Public Information Specialist Job Description


Location: Remote (after training)
Employment Type: Full-Time and Part-Time Opportunities Available

Overview:

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Public Information Specialist to lead and support public engagement efforts for transportation and infrastructure projects. This position involves managing community outreach, coordinating public meeting logistics, and ensuring effective communication with stakeholders. The ideal candidate has excellent writing skills, project management experience, and a background in community engagement or event planning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Project Management:

    • Serve as project lead for engineering and transportation public information efforts.

    • Develop and implement Public Information or Community Awareness Plans.

    • Coordinate creation and delivery of communication materials (ads, press releases, handouts, letters, web content, and display boards).

    • Manage post-meeting reporting, including attendance logs, comment summaries, photographs, and response letters.

    • Prepare notification letters and property owner email lists.

  • Meeting Logistics & Support:

    • Research and select venues; obtain quotes for public meetings.

    • Maintain detailed public involvement logs for each project.

    • Attend and contribute to internal and client project meetings.

  • Reporting & Compliance:

    • Provide regular updates to the President and document monthly accomplishments per project for client billing.

    • Follow CDCS and client-specific approval protocols.

    • Maintain accurate daily time logs.

  • Communication & Content:

    • Ensure strong grammar and organization in all written materials.

    • Collaborate with leadership to keep CDCS website content current.

  • Additional Duties:

    • Perform other responsibilities as assigned to support overall project success.

Qualifications:

  • Experience managing events and public engagement initiatives.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Excellent time management; able to juggle multiple projects independently.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook); experience with GoToWebinar and other job-related software a plus.

  • Comfortable working remotely after training.

  • BS in Communications or related field preferred, but not required.

  • Portfolio of relevant work and references required.

Compensation:

Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Time Off:

10 days paid vacation.

8 days paid sick leave.

Most Federal Holidays with a bonus day for major holidays (full-time and part-time).
